After a short engagement at Broadway’s Helen Hayes Theatre, Dames at Sea will return to port (sorry, we had to) on Sunday January 3rd, 2016.
The production, which originally starred Bernadette Peters when it played off-broadway in the 1960s, had been struggling at the box office since arriving on the Great White Way. After weeks of low grosses, word came on Monday that the musical revival would close after 23 previews and 85 regular performances.
The show is billed as “a tap-happy celebration of the golden era of movie musicals with a heart as big as the ocean! Directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award® nominee Randy Skinner (42nd Street, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas), this gem of a show has been reimagined for the bright lights of Broadway and taken to glamorous and spectacular new heights!” The show features Lesli Margherita, John Bolton, Mara Davi, Danny Gardner, Eloise Kropp, and Cary Tedder.
